How to Become a Freemason in Frederick County, Maryland
Freemasonry does not recruit. To join, a man must seek membership of his own free will and accord. The traditional path begins with a simple act: ask a Mason. If you know a Brother of Fervency Lodge No. 200, express your interest. If you do not, we welcome your inquiry below.
Fervency Lodge has been making good men better in Frederick County, Maryland since 1898. Located in Point of Rocks, we serve Freemasons across the state of Maryland. We are a band of Brothers bound by mutual obligation, dedicated to the pursuit of moral and intellectual improvement.
Requirements
- Age: You must be at least 21 years of age.
- Character: You must be a man of good moral character and reputation.

The Process
- Inquire: Express your interest by contacting us or asking a member of Fervency Lodge. We will arrange an informal conversation to answer your questions.
- Petition: Complete a petition for membership. Two Master Masons of the lodge must sign as recommenders. If you do not know any, we will introduce you.
- Investigation: A committee of three lodge members will visit with you to learn about your character and intentions. This is a friendly conversation, not an interrogation.
- Ballot: The lodge votes on your petition by secret ballot. Freemasonry requires unanimous consent.
- Degrees: Upon acceptance, you will receive the three degrees of Masonry: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason. Each degree teaches moral lessons through allegory and symbolism.
